On Thursday the 13th of July the new intake of almost 280 fledgling Year 5 wizards visited “Quogwarts” for a day of Harry Potter themed activities.
The transition students had remembered to collect their robes and gowns from Diagon Alley and they looked fabulous.
The taster lessons experienced included wand making at Ollivander’s Wand Workshop, Quidditch in a bouncy castle, Divination (thank you Professor Trelawney) and Transfiguration with dwarfs, wizards and giants. Students delved into the History of Magic, worked their way around a Marauder’s Map and designed their own House’s Coat Of Arms. Potions fizzed and bubbled and Fantastic Beasts took shape under the watchful eye of a Hippogriff.
Helping each of the Wizarding School teams were our own Sixth Form Ambassadors, assisted by some Year 7, 8 and 11 students. A huge thank you must go to these students who were brilliant on the day, there were lots of very positive comments about how they looked after the visiting Year 5s.
Sarah, James and Ben were in charge of the Owlery, with Eagle, Barn and Little owls waiting to deliver mail. Mrs Walshaw of “Walshaw and Usborne” ran a book stall and The Two Witches tearoom served hot and cold drinks, strawberries and biscuits throughout the day.
Mr Logan said “The whole day was blessed with good weather, thank you Albus Dumbledore, and we all had a Pottertastic day! This is a great way to welcome our future Year 7 students. This day is an amazing team effort so thank you to everyone who delivered a lesson or helped behind the scenes. MAGIC!”
