Queen Elizabeth’s School invites Crediton community to share ideas for College House

Queen Elizabeth’s School (QE) is inviting the Crediton community to share their thoughts on some exciting early ideas for revitalising College House.

The school is currently split across two sites, the Western Road Campus and Barnfield Campus. However, as part of QE’s commitment to providing students with a nurturing learning environment which supports the delivery of high-quality education, it has long been exploring the possibility of uniting the school onto one location in Crediton.

A key part of this long-term ambition is the transformation of College House. QE is now in the early stages of exploring options to repair and modernise the historic College House, in line with its heritage status, to provide arts education for the school and community. Whilst it progresses with this ambition, it is continuing to invest in the current school environment.

College House is a Grade II listed building in the centre of Crediton, built in 1859 and typical of gothic revival architecture, and is a central part of the school’s Western Road campus.

Rooted in the building’s history and character, the school is exploring how College House could not just deliver a state-of-the-art learning environment fit for future generations of students but also meet the needs of the community to become a valuable facility for the town.

QE is committed to strengthening Crediton and the surrounding areas and wants the community to be part of shaping this vision from the start. Local residents, businesses and stakeholders are invited to attend drop-in sessions to meet the team involved in this project, find out more about the early ideas and share thoughts on how this opportunity can meet the needs of students and the Crediton community.

The community are welcome to drop in during the following times:

  • Thursday 15th January 2026, 5:00-7:00pm at the Boniface Centre
  • Saturday 17th January 2026, 10:30am-12:30pm at the Boniface Centre

If residents are unable to attend the sessions but are keen to find out more, they can email [email protected]

Paula Smith, Headteacher at Queen Elizabeth’s School said: "College House has been at the heart of QE, and Crediton, for generations, and we want it to continue inspiring students and the community for many more. We’re excited to hear from Crediton residents as we explore how this historic building can become a vibrant hub for learning, creativity, and connection."
