QE Theatre Academy
QE Theatre Academy is a thriving part of Queen Elizabeth’s Extra-curricular offer. Each year the theatre academy presents a large-scale, whole school musical which takes place on our Western Road campus in the Drama Hall. Open to Years 9 – 13, and under the direction of our Head of Drama, Vicky Evans, the academy is proud of the high standards of performances that our highly talented and committed students are able to achieve. Auditions for each year’s production take place at the end of September and the cast rehearse on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school, along with a number of Sundays, in preparation for show week. There are many opportunities for a wide range of students to be involved, not just onstage but backstage, front of house, as technicians or set builders and also in our fantastic live band, led by our Head of Music, Lucy Welsman. Recent productions have been Les Misérables – School Edition, West Side Story, Into The Woods, Titanic – the musical, Return From The Forbidden Planet, Chicago, The Wiz, Legally Blonde and last year’s outstanding production of We Will Rock You – School Edition.
Our Year 7 & 8 students also have the opportunity to take part in biannual productions, most recently performing Disney’s Moana Jnr – the musical, under the direction of Emily Morgan.
