We have designed a pastoral system that aims to ensure that your son/daughter has one teacher that knows them really well – their tutor. We know that the best way we can help support our students around mental health difficulties is to talk to them about it, to help remove the stigma, and to spot and patterns of behaviour early. A teacher who knows their students really well is one of the best ways we can do this.
Through our Personal Development Programme we are building an approach with the support of Exeter University and the NHS – ‘Living Life to the Full’. This aims to develop students understanding and awareness around preventative aspects of mental health, and routes for seeking help.
QE also has Mental Health Champions to help work with staff and students and to signpost resources and sources of support. Our Student Support Team, who work on both Barnfield and Western Road have also had additional training in a variety of different mental illness issues.
Our teachers are developing their knowledge and understanding of Mental Health in a number of different ways in the coming year. This will ensue that they have the best knowledge available to them to help make a difference.
