QE students have access to a very stretching, structured study programme, similar to the International Baccalaureate. This includes opportunities for creativity, sporting and voluntary activities and the Extended Project Qualification, cited by top universities as an excellent indicator of academic quality. Many students also undertake MOOCs – free online courses provided by UK universities.
Please find our Sixth Form Course Guide at the bottom of this page.
Students who achieve highly in their GCSEs are encouraged to apply to join our Aspire Scholars Programme, which supports them to aim for the very top universities and professions. Students are given the opportunity to meet with other like-minded sixth formers, attend summer schools and lectures from visiting speakers as well as being coached for interviews for university and internships.
Oxford University came to QE last year to offer our Aspire Scholars workshops on making an Oxbridge application.
Students who are aiming for careers in medicine, veterinary sciences, dentistry and nursing can join MedSoc for advice on interviews, entrance tests and events to support their applications.
All students in the Sixth Form are encouraged to work towards the Diploma Award. Students are rewarded for involvement in Enrichment activities such as volunteering in the community, action in sports or hobbies and their development of independent study and employability skills. Certificates are presented towards the end of Year 13 at our Diploma Award evening. All students undertake a week-long work shadowing placement in the Summer term of Year 12 as part of this programme.
Please find our Enrichment Booklet at the bottom of this page.
