Libraries

We take books and reading very seriously at QE and do everything we can to encourage reading amongst our students.

We have two attractive, welcoming Libraries, each well stocked with books to encourage reading for pleasure as well as a vast selection of quality materials to support Teacher and Student learning. This includes books, daily newspapers and current magazines. Each is also equipped with a touch screen interactive white board, computers, laptops and iPads for students to borrow and use.

As students cross the bridge into the Barnfield Main Building the  Library is the first room they come to. Light and spacious with spectacular views across rolling Devon countryside, the Library has been designed and furnished with students' learning and pastoral needs at its heart. There is a real buzz at break and lunchtime - with games, activities and the sharing of books, all overseen by Student Librarians. The Library also plays a key role in the school's commitment to transition. Students can also access audio books in the Story Cave found in the Reception area.

The Western Road Campus Library is situated in the oldest part of the Western Road site - College House, built in 1864 - the Library has a stock of over 13,000 books. The space is very flexible, with moveable bookcases, and is used for meetings, hospitality events, presentations and Parents' Evening. There are Laptops, MacBooks and iPads for students to loan and use anywhere in College House. There is also a photocopier which acts as a printer available for both Teachers and Students to use. The School's considerable history can be seen displayed on the Library walls with Honour Boards, War Memorials and images and lists of former Heads Of School and Headmasters.
