The Hygiene Bank Launches at QE

Crediton has Four Drop Off Points for Donations

QE has partnered with The Hygiene Bank, a registered, people powered, grassroots charity fighting hygiene poverty across UK and Ireland.

Galvanised by the belief that being clean is not a luxury or a privilege, The Hygiene Bank collects and re-distributes donated toiletries, hygiene, beauty and personal care items to schools, charities, local authority services and voluntary organisations.

Many people in poverty, or those who find themselves in times of crisis, often have to make the distressing decision to eat or stay clean because they can't afford to do both. Hygiene poverty is shaming, humiliating and excluding and can result in social isolation. It leads to a crippling lack of confidence and negatively affects good health and mental well-being which can impact early childhood development, learning, employability and social interaction. Ultimately The Hygiene Bank’s focus is dignity, self-confidence and mental well-being.

Teacher in charge of the initiative at QE, Rebecca Kinge-Whiteley said; "We are extremely pleased to be able to offer this service to our students. Nobody should be put in the position of having to choose between eating and staying clean, and now thankfully, with the help of The Hygiene Bank, they don't have to. We are very grateful to The Hygiene Bank for this partnership."

Thanks to the kindness of members of the public, donations of have been collected and distributed to QE. These in turn are then given for free to our students as and when they are needed. QE has two boxes of products, one at Barnfield Student Support and one at Western Road Student Support where students can access products.

The Hygiene Bank manages all donations through their collections boxes in Crediton; the Co-op, the Tesco Superstore, the Library and the Town Council, and these are co-ordinated by Louise Martin Co-ordinator from the Hygiene Bank Crediton.
