QE's annual bake off took place on Wednesday 22nd March to celebrate Comic Relief. The brief was to bake a cake on the theme of Comic Relief.
Students and staff took up the challenge and made an array of delicious cakes, cupcakes, brownies and cookies in a variety of flavours. It is safe to say that the budding Mary Berry’s and Paul Hollywood’s went all out to demonstrate their baking skills, with multiple layers and surprise flavoured centres that took the judge by surprise almost every time.
Principal Rupert Poole judged the cakes on both taste and appearance.
In 1st place is Sophie Cox in Y10 who made a delicious chocolate cake, with an outer layer of Malteasers and a Triathlon scene moulded out of fondant icing on top.
In 2nd place is Sophie Tricker in Y9, who made a chocolate sponge cake with chocolate custard, beautifully decorated with a comic relief design.
In 3rd place is Ruby Chudley in Y7, who made a scrumptious chocolate 'sniffler' red nose cake.
All three winners were awarded medals. However, Sophie in first place was also awarded the yearly trophy, engraved with her name and a baking book to help her develop her talent further.
The cakes were cut up into slices which were quickly snapped up by students and staff during lunch time. The Bake Off sale made a total of £51.90 which will be donated to Comic Relief.
