Rambert Workshop & Theatre Trip for GCSE & A Level

On Thursday 1st December, Dance students from Years 10 – 13 travelled to Plymouth’s Theatre Royal to see the magnificent Rambert Dance Company in performance.

Once again, the strength, stamina, flexibility and skill of Rambert’s dancers was breath-taking and the Triple Bill programme provided a varied and thrilling evening. The final piece, A Linha Curva choreographed by Itzik Galili, is Rambert’s party piece - a Samba-fuelled Brazilian celebration, filled with pulsating drum beats, a cappella chanting and fast and furious movement. The students all agreed that this was by far their favourite of the evening as they left the theatre buzzing with excitement for the next day’s workshop.

On Friday morning, we were lucky enough to have a visiting Rambert practitioner lead a workshop based on A Linha Curva, where movement material from the previous night’s performance was taught and learnt by our students.

They began with a challenging technique class, where students were lead through a series of Cunningham exercises, designed to prepare them for learning the rep. Our students threw their heart and soul into every task given to them, producing their own mini version of A Linha Curva by the end of the 3-hour session.
