Queen Elizabeth’s School has just completed £700k of grant funded improvement works to one of their main teaching blocks which was built at the start of the previous century.
The building, known as West Wing, underwent a significant renovation including the replacement of the entire roof and all the windows.
QE worked in partnership with the Devon construction company, Westcountry Maintenance Services who, on completion of the seven month project, presented the school with before and after photos showing the original construction team in 1910, and a replica involving the team who completed the refurbishment 107 years later. Safety standards in construction seem to have moved on a bit over the period and a stand in was required for the contractor’s dog in the 2017 version.
Ben Brook, QE Director of Finance and Resources commented “This project has not only significantly improved the learning environment for our students here at QE School, but it has also managed to retain the charm of one of our landmark buildings. The contractors and school staff worked closely together to minimise any disruption and the building is now ready to serve us well for another century.”
