QE Students set the pace in Worldwide Maths in Motion Event

Thursday 9th November was World Cars Maths in Motion day where 13,000 students across the globe took part in the competition, to see who can create the fastest car around the Monaco Formula one track.

40 Gifted maths students from QE took part in this worldwide event. The students working in small teams, completed a series of STEM relevant tasks in an effort to produce the perfect car and test it around the track.

Caitlin Vine and Naomi Acton were fastest on the day with 68.044 seconds with Chloe Fice and Maya Vaughan matching their time but because Caitlin’s team set the time first they were the fastest going into results day.

Results day came and it turns out that Caitlin’s team came 5th out of 13000 in the whole world, which is a fantastic achievement. They were only 0.1 seconds off the winner!

We had a staggering 11 students in the top 70. Those results can be seen below:
