QE Punching Above

On Saturday 7th October, QE’s PE department hosted a course for many teachers and personal trainers across Devon & Somerset in the teaching of the all new England Boxing ‘BOX’ initiative.

GB Coach, Richard Powers came all the way down from London to lead the course and thanks must go to all the PE team for giving up their weekend to complete the programme!

So, why are we donning the boxing gloves and offering this to our students? Because experiences of sport for students has to be varied. What inspires and engages students will always change and evolve. The ‘BOX’ initiative is a non-contact, technical & physical form of boxing. Students do not, at any stage, step into a ring and box against each other. That is not what ‘BOX’ is all about. BOX is about discipline, accuracy, fitness, & coordination.

New activities, new faces and new experiences are at the heart of what Queen Elizabeth’s PE department strive for! Over the forthcoming year, we will be rolling this out to our students in Key Stage 4. All teachers in the PE department successfully passed the course and are now fully qualified to teach it.

The gloves are on order and the PE team are keen to introduce our students to this brand new initiative. What a knock out!
