QE GCSE students received their results, at the school’s Western Road campus, this morning.
Rupert Poole, Principal at QE said: “There was a fantastic atmosphere in school this morning as students came in to collect their results. Whilst the method used to award students their grades this year was different, none of that should be allowed to get in the way of recognising the achievements of our young people. They have worked hard on their studies throughout their time in school and their results demonstrate this.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate them and to wish them all the very best for the future.
The grades the students have received are the product of their hard work over the whole of their time in secondary school, and especially Years 10 and 11. The grades were decided through a process that involved teachers and school leaders using evidence of achievement and knowledge of the students’ likely performance in the examinations, had they had the opportunity to sit them. Staff worked closely with each other to ensure that the grades were checked and moderated to achieve fairness and consistency.
Our Year 11 students have been fantastic. They have dealt with the challenges the pandemic has thrown at them with great resilience, a core QE value. They have coped with huge changes to their lives and now is the time for them to concentrate on their futures and we will be doing everything possible to support them as they take their next steps. Many of them will be joining our successful Sixth Form and enrolment day takes place in the Library in College House on Wednesday 2nd September between 1.15pm-3.15pm.
Staff also worked hard to ensure that the Centre Assessment Grades were allocated with all the seriousness and professionalism that our students deserve. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff for the support they have given to our students over the years.”
Mrs Dulcie Oliver Head of Year 11 said:
"It has been an honour and privilege to walk with this year group from their Transition to QE in Year 7, to this point. This particular group of students have always shown kindness and empathy, care and compassion, focus and resilience and this has stood them in good stead for the unforeseeable and abrupt end to their time with us. Each and every student in Year 11 has faced and overcome all manner of challenges at different points in their school career, and stand today having managed this particular period of time and incredible uncertainty with a composure and grace I greatly admire. I am incredibly proud of each member of the Class of 2020, of whom they are, what they stand for and what they have achieved and am certain that in spite of this strange ending, that they will carve out a path into the future of which they can each be very proud."
