CLC Road-tests New Event with Talented Year 5 & 6’s

Gifted and Talented Session Challenges the Top 10%

QE’s Crediton Learning Community Sports Partnership with local Primaries, introduced a new event last week with a Gifted and Talented session for Year 5 & 6 boys and girls who excel at sport.

44 of the most able primary PE students from 9 schools across mid Devon, were challenged in a variety of skill based and physical activities, led by PE teacher Ross Gillon and QE's ever conscientious Y9 sports leaders.

Primary schools were asked to select their top 10% of students from their PE lessons for the event resulting in a 50/50 mix of very competitive boys and girls!

During the 3 hour workshop, the primary students were put through their paces involving a range of 10 fitness tests to identify their physical strengths and weaknesses. They were also given presentations on nutrition, team tactics and fitness development.

QE Year 9 Sports Leader Jack Gillick commented after the session "It was great to work with such able students. They picked ideas up early, so we could move on to new challenges quickly which kept things interesting."

Participant Jax Foster-Wilson, a year 6 student from Copplestone School, said; “I really enjoyed the session. The fitness tests were lots of fun but my favourite was going in the gym and learning about fitness development from Mr Gillon.”

Still to come, Multi-Skills for Years 1 & 2 and the Y5/6 Netball tournament being held after Easter.
