On Friday 3rd March, QE once again welcomed Dr Stewart Barr, from the University of Exeter’s Geography Department, to speak to our Sixth Formers who are studying A Level Geography.
As always, Dr Barr's talk was very informative and engaging. He looked at past and present planning decisions that are affecting Exeter, and discussed the changing face of the city, particularly since The Blitz and the controversy surrounding planning decisions.
The talk was structured around the fundamental question - What makes a sustainable place, in which people want to live, with a high quality of life? In particular Dr Barr focused on the post war planning blight of modernism inflicted on central Exeter. The talk inspired a very healthy crowd of Y12 and 13 Geographers - some of whom may well be the city planners and architects of the future.
As always we are hugely grateful to Dr Barr for giving up his time and sharing his expertise with QE students and we hope to welcome him back in the future!
