D-Day 80th Anniversary

On Thursday 6th June, QE will join the nation in marking the 80th anniversary of D-Day. This day holds profound historical importance, and we are proud to be part of the nationwide remembrance activities.

To honour this occasion, we have several activities planned:

  1. Cadets in Uniform: Our school cadets are invited to wear their uniforms on Thursday to pay tribute to those who served.
  2. National Fish and Chip Day: Thursday will also coincide with National Fish and Chip Day. In celebration, our canteen will be serving chips, making it a special "Chip Day" this week.
  3. Town Crier Event: At 8.00am, the town crier will be making an announcement in Crediton. Ms. Smith, Mrs. Blagden, and a group of students will be attending to represent Queen Elizabeth's School.
  4. National Schools' Poem: At 11.00am, all students will listen to members from their year groups read the National Schools’ Poem. This will be a unified activity conducted simultaneously with other schools across the country.
  5. Year 11 Assembly: Due to ongoing exams, Year 11 students will have their assembly on Thursday afternoon during the reading period.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the History Department for their efforts in preparing and delivering the assemblies this week.

We also encourage all families to light a lamp of peace at 9.15pm on Thursday, to coincide with the lighting of beacons across the nation, in memory of those who served during D-Day.

This is a proud moment for us to be part of a community that values and honours our shared history.
