Aspire Talk: Investment Banking in 30 minutes

On Friday 19th January, QE History and Politics teacher, Sam Robbins, set out to explain the complexities of investment banking in half an hour!

Sam, who has previously worked in both Financial Services and at the Treasury, started by explaining the importance of the Financial Services sector to the UK economy and then moved on to explain the complicated notion of trading in derivatives.

The talk was very well attended and attracted QE students studying a wide range of subjects including Maths, Business, Product Design, Politics and History.

We are very grateful to Sam for sharing his expertise and coming in on his day off to do so. The rather stunning mathematical formula he showed us, for working out the risk attached to a derivative, remains to be unpicked another day!
